View Public ProfileDistinguished and Famous people from Barooga
Barooga's notable people include community volunteers and someone whose working life and sporting skill have both been closely tied to the local golf course. Their recognition comes from sustained contributions in the town.
🤝 Valerie Lockman
Valerie Lockman was named Berrigan Shire's Citizen of the Year in 2026. Her work with the VALS Sewing Group, Cobram Quilters and Barooga Advancement Group has included handmade quilts for hospitals and people in need, event decorations and responses to hardship such as the 2022 floods. She has also shared textile skills with others. The council's award recognises a long record of practical volunteering across the Barooga–Cobram community.
⛳ Terry Vogel
Terry Vogel began an apprenticeship at Barooga Bowling Club in 1985 before developing a long career caring for the Cobram Barooga golf course. His responsibilities grew to superintendent, with the condition of the greens becoming a particular point of pride. He has also won nineteen club championships. The combination is unusually complete: he knows the course through early-morning maintenance as well as the considerably less predictable business of trying to get a ball around it.
